Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized the opposition on Friday for boycotting a debate in Parliament on the three criminal law bills. He accused them of making excuses and mocking the vice president.
During the inauguration of various development projects in Chandigarh, Shah expressed his disappointment with the opposition’s decision to skip the discussion on the criminal law bills. He also highlighted their disrespectful behavior outside Parliament, where Trinamool Congress leader Kalyan Banerjee mimicked the vice president during the opposition’s protest against the suspension of MPs on Tuesday.
Shah condemned the opposition’s actions, stating, “Nothing can be more condemnable than this.” He further criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for recording the mimicry act and making fun of it.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining the dignity of constitutional posts, Shah stated, “Several governments came and went, but the dignity of constitutional posts has always been maintained.” He urged those who attack the dignity of constitutional posts to understand that their actions are being observed by the public.
Furthermore, Shah asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has never disrespected individuals holding constitutional posts, whether in power or in the opposition.
The Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill were passed by both Houses of Parliament on December 21. These bills aim to replace the existing Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Evidence Act.
