Antony Blinken condemns Hamas as the aggressor

'War Over Tomorrow If...': Antony Blinken Hits Out At 'Aggressor' Hamas

Israel’s strongest ally, the US, has denounced the Hamas attack

Washington DC:

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has strongly criticized nations for not demanding that the terrorist organization Hamas stop using civilians as shields, disarm, and surrender.

During a press briefing at the US State Department on Wednesday, Blinken expressed his dismay that while many countries are calling for an end to the ongoing conflict, there are no demands being made of Hamas to cease its use of civilian shields and lay down its weapons.

“What is striking to me is that even as we hear many countries urging an end to this conflict, I hear virtually no one demanding that Hamas stop hiding behind civilians, lay down its arms, and surrender. If Hamas does that, this conflict could be over tomorrow. It could have been over a month ago or six weeks ago if Hamas had taken these steps,” Blinken stated.

“How can it be that there are no demands being made of the aggressor and only demands being made of the victim?” he added.

During an end-of-year press availability, Blinken emphasized the need to end the conflict as quickly as possible. However, he highlighted that if the conflict ends with Hamas still in power and the intent to repeat attacks, it would not serve the interests of Israel, the region, or the world.

The US, Israel’s strongest ally, has condemned the Hamas attack on October 7, which resulted in over 1,200 fatalities.

Nevertheless, senior US officials, including President Joe Biden, have urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take greater measures to protect innocent lives during the campaign against Hamas, as the number of civilian casualties in Gaza continues to rise due to Israel’s response.

The conflict in Gaza escalated after the October 7 attack by Hamas, where approximately 2,500 terrorists breached the border into Israel from the Gaza Strip, leading to casualties and the taking of hostages.

Israel has described its offensive in Gaza as targeting Hamas’ infrastructure and aiming to eliminate the entire terrorist group while minimizing civilian casualties.
