New Delhi:
A conman named Sukesh Chandrashekar has been sending numerous WhatsApp messages to the popular actor Jacqueline Fernandez from inside jail. These messages range from promises to help her “get out of this mess” to requests for her to wear a black dress as a sign that she has read his messages.
Both individuals are currently under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate for their alleged involvement in a Rs 200 crore money laundering case. Jacqueline Fernandez has approached the court regarding the coverage of the conman’s messages or letters by the media, claiming that it is causing distress for her.
In one of the messages, Chandrashekar asks Fernandez to wear a “black kurta or dress” to indicate that she has seen all his messages. He also expresses confusion as to why she is avoiding him and assures her that it is his responsibility to help her out of this situation. He warns her to be cautious of those trying to manipulate her with “sweet talks.”
The actor has filed a petition with the Delhi High Court to have the case against her quashed, along with a supplementary chargesheet. In her petition, she asserts that she is an innocent victim of Chandrashekar’s targeted attack and denies any involvement in money laundering activities, stating that she cannot be prosecuted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The Enforcement Directorate has opposed the petition, claiming that the actor has not refuted allegations of receiving gifts worth Rs 7.12 crore from Chandrashekar, with an additional Rs 1.12 crore worth of gifts being delivered to her sister in Sri Lanka. The agency argues that these allegations, along with the accusations of receiving and retaining proceeds of crime, are sufficient grounds for money laundering proceedings.
The court has issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate and scheduled the next hearing for January 29.
