M Kharge, in response to the allegations made by the Vice President, clarifies that he is not allowed to speak for a minute.

'Not Permitted To Speak For A Minute': M Kharge Responds To Veep's Charges

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his frustration over the suspension of MPs from Parliament, deeming it detrimental to the core principles of India’s democracy. In a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar, Kharge reiterated the opposition’s demand for the Home Minister to address the recent breach in Parliament. He emphasized the importance of the opposition having a say, stating that while the government may have its way, parliamentary democracy should be upheld.

Kharge’s response came after the Vice President sent a letter claiming that the disruptions caused by opposition MPs made the House dysfunctional. However, Kharge argued that the MPs were not given the opportunity to speak for even a minute or two. He expressed regret that the opposition’s notices were not admitted and that he, as the Leader of the Opposition, was not allowed to speak on the House floor. Kharge denounced the suspension of the MPs as a blatant violation of rules, but agreed to the Chairman’s request for a dialogue to address these concerns constructively.

Both Houses of Parliament witnessed intense protests from opposition MPs who sought a discussion on the December 13 security breach, where two intruders entered the Lok Sabha chambers and released colored smoke canisters. Over 140 MPs were expelled from both houses for their unruly conduct.
