New Delhi:
Scheduled flights from Ayodhya’s Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport to major cities across the country are set to begin on January 6. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the airport on December 30.
The recent successful landing of an Indian Air Force Airbus A320 at Ayodhya Airport marked a significant milestone for the city, as it prepares to establish itself as an air travel hub ahead of the grand opening of the Ram Temple next year.
Indigo Airlines will provide services to major cities including Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Goa.
“As we all know, the airstrip in Ayodhya was very small. We only had 178 acres of land here, which was not sufficient for a large international airport. With the approval of the central government, following Prime Minister Modi’s guidance, the proposal for a new airport was accepted. The state government has provided 821 acres of land, and the Airport Authority of India is working diligently to develop the new airport. It will be ready by December 15,” stated Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath earlier this month.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized the importance of Ayodhya’s airport reflecting the city’s historic significance and culture.
“When individuals from within the country or abroad visit an airport, they should experience the rich historical significance of the city. Therefore, Ayodhya’s airport should not be just another airport. We have made an effort to incorporate Ayodhya’s culture into the design of the airport,” Scindia explained.
The airport, spanning 6500 square meters, will be capable of accommodating two to three flights per hour. Initially, a 2200-meter runway will be constructed, which will later be extended to 3700 meters in the second phase. This expansion will enable international flights to land at Ayodhya,” he added.
