On Camera, Telangana Cops Drag Protesting Student By Hair

Hyderabad:

A disturbing video capturing two Telangana policewomen dragging a protesting student by her hair has gone viral on social media. The footage shows the policemen on a scooty chasing a young woman, who then falls as the policewoman riding pillion grabs hold of her long hair.

According to reports, the student belonged to ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad), a student group associated with the BJP’s ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

The protest was against the state government’s recent decision to allocate land from Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) for the construction of a new High Court complex.

Kavitha, leader of the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samith, expressed her deep concern and strong disapproval of the incident on X (formerly known as Twitter). She tweeted, “The recent incident involving Telangana police is deeply concerning and absolutely unacceptable. Dragging a peaceful student protester and unleashing abrasive behavior on the protestor raises serious questions about the need for such aggressive tactics by the police.”

Kavitha demanded an unconditional apology from the Telangana Police for their arrogant behavior and called on the Human Rights Commission to swiftly take strict action against those involved.

She emphasized that such behavior should not be normalized and must be condemned by all. Kavitha tagged the Commission in her message.

The protests have been ongoing for nearly a week, with students arguing that the construction of the new building will result in the felling of numerous trees. They are demanding that an alternative tract of barren land be allocated for the court.

The earmarked area includes parts of the campus, including butterfly and biodiversity parks, as well as the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research Station.
