Telangana Govt. offers huge discount on unpaid traffic fines.

Telangana Government Offers Massive Discount on Pending Traffic Challans

The Telangana government has introduced a new scheme allowing citizens to pay their pending traffic challans at a significantly reduced price. Under this initiative, the state government is offering a discount of 60-90% on the original traffic challan amount. The one-time settlement scheme will be available from December 26 to January 10. However, some users reported difficulties in availing the declared discount and expressed their concerns on social media, specifically tagging Hyderabad Police. To address these issues, a government order (GO) was promptly issued to clarify any doubts.

According to the GO, individuals operating push carts will receive a 90% discount, paying only 10% of the challan amount, while the remaining 90% will be waived off. The same discount is applicable to RTC drivers.

For two-wheelers and three-wheelers, an 80% discount has been granted, with the remaining 20% of the challan amount to be paid. Cars, light motor vehicles, trucks, and heavy motor vehicles, on the other hand, are eligible for a 60% discount.

This discount scheme fulfills an election promise made by the Congress party and aims to benefit vehicle owners across the state. To make the payment, vehicle owners are required to visit the Telangana traffic e-challan website, check for any pending challans against their vehicles, and pay the discounted amount online.

It has been reported that approximately two crore traffic challans are pending throughout the state. Earlier this year, the central government informed Parliament that over 4.73 crore challans worth Rs 7,563.60 crore were issued for traffic violations in the country in 2022. In 2021, authorities issued more than 4.21 crore challans worth Rs 5,318.70 crore for traffic violations nationwide.

According to the data provided by the Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, Karnataka has the highest number of registered vehicles (over 15 years old), followed by Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

Citizens are encouraged to take advantage of this limited-time discount scheme to clear their pending traffic challans and avail significant savings.

The Telangana government has recently announced a significant discount on pending traffic challans as part of an initiative to ease the burden on citizens. The discount, ranging from 35% to 75%, will be applicable to all traffic violations committed before December 31, 2020. This move aims to encourage individuals to clear their pending challans by offering them a reduced penalty amount. It is a positive step towards resolving traffic-related issues and promoting compliance with road safety regulations in the state.
