Chelsea manager confirms midfielder wont face Newcastle

Lavia yet to recover from knee injury

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has disclosed that summer signing Romeo Lavia is still in the process of recovering from his knee injury.

The Belgian joined the Blues in a significant transfer from Southampton during the summer, but he has not yet played for the club.

Although he was expected to make his debut after the October international break, he suffered a setback during training.

Pochettino has now revealed that the former Manchester City graduate has not fully recuperated and will not be available for the match against Newcastle United.

However, Christopher Nkunku may make his first-team appearance during the Carabao Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Nkunku sustained a knee injury during pre-season and has been cautiously managed. He might get a few minutes on the field as a substitute.

The Blues are currently 17 points behind Arsenal for the top spot in the Premier League and 11 points adrift of fifth place.

Therefore, winning the Carabao Cup could provide them with the best opportunity to qualify for European football in the 2024/25 season.
